اردو پوئٹری اردو شاعری کے نام سے بھی جانتی جاتی ہے۔ شاعری کی مالامال روایت   صدیوں سے  اردو زبان کا ایک  اہم حصہ  رہی ہے۔ یہ اپنی خوبصورتی، گہرائی اور اپنے قارئین کے دلوں کو چھونے کی صلاحیت کے لیے جانی جاتی ہے۔

اردو کے مشہور شاعروں میں مرزا غالبؔ کا نام  سر فہرست ہے۔ انہیں اردو زبان کے عظیم شاعروں میں شمار کیا جاتا ہے اور ان کی شاعری آج بھی بڑے پیمانے پر پڑھی اور پسند کی جاتی ہے۔ ان کی مشہور نظموں میں سے ایک

"ہزاروں خواہِشاں ایسی کی ہر خواہش پہ دم نکلے

،بہت نکلے میرے ارمان،لیکن پھر بھی کام نکلے۔"

جس کا ترجمہ یہ ہے کہ "ہزاروں خواہشیں ہیں، ہر ایک قربانی مانگتی ہے، میری بہت سی خواہشیں پوری ہو چکی ہیں، پھر بھی کم لگتی ہیں۔" یہ نظم انسانی حالت اور خواہش اور تکمیل کی جدوجہد کی عکاس  کرتی ہے۔

اردو کے ایک اور مشہور شاعر فیضؔ احمد فیض ہیں۔ وہ اپنی انقلابی شاعری اور اپنی شاعری کے ذریعے پیچیدہ سیاسی اور سماجی خیالات کا اظہار کرنے کی صلاحیت کے لیے جانے جاتے ہیں ۔ ان کی مشہور نظموں میں سے ایک

 "ہم دیکھیں گے" ہے جس کا ترجمہ ہے "ہم گواہی دیں گے"، یہ نظم مزاحمت اور امید کا ایک طاقتور بیان ہے، اور یہ آزادی اور انصاف کی جدوجہد کی علامت بن گئی ہے۔

علؔامہ اقبال کا شمار اردو کے اہم شاعروں میں ہوتا ہے، ان کی شاعری اپنے فلسفیانہ اور روحانی موضوعات کی وجہ سے جانی جاتی ہے۔ ان کی مشہور نظموں میں سے ایک

"لب پہ آتی ہے دعا بن کے تمنا میری" ہے جس کا ترجمہ ہے "ایک دعا میرے ہونٹوں پر اٹھتی ہے"۔ یہ نظم الہی سے تعلق کی انسانی خواہش اور روحانی تکمیل کی آرزو کا ایک طاقتور اظہار ہے۔

"دل سے تیرا خیال نہ جائے تو کیا کرو،

تم ہی بتا تو یاد نہ آئے تو کیا کرو"

ترجمہ: "اگر میں آپ کے بارے میں اپنے دل سے نہیں سوچ سکتا تو میں کیا کروں؟ آپ مجھے بتائیں، اگر آپ میرے ذہن میں نہیں آتے تو میں کیا کروں؟"

"یہ زندگی بھی اجیب چیز ہے،
کسی کا ٹوٹ جانا کسی کی جیت ہے"

ترجمہ: "زندگی بھی عجیب چیز ہے کسی کی ہار کسی کی جیت ہے۔"

"زندگی سے پیار کرو، زندگی ہی کچھ کام نہیں، اگر زندگی سے پیار نہیں کرو تو کچھ بھی کام نہیں"

"ہے اندازِ گفتگو کی شوخیاں نہیں،

 آپ سے مل کر آپ کی تسویر بنا دی"

ترجمہ: "ہماری گفتگو میں خوبصورتی نہیں ہے، لیکن تم سے ملنے کے بعد میں نے اپنے ذہن میں تمہاری تصویر بنائی ہے۔"

"دل کی بات کہنے کو جی چاہتا ہے،

 مگر ہرف دعا سمجھ نہیں آتا"

ترجمہ: "میرا دل چاہتا ہے کہ کچھ کہوں لیکن مجھے دعا کے الفاظ سمجھ نہیں آتے۔"

"Zindagi se pyar karo, zindagi hi kuch kam nahi,
Agar zindagi se pyar nahi karo to kuch bhi kam nahi"

Translation: "Love life, it's nothing less, If you don't love life, it's nothing at all"
"Hai andaaz-e-guftugoo ki shokhiyan nahin,
Aap se mil kar aapki tasweer bana di"

Translation: "There's no elegance in our conversation, but after meeting you, I have formed a picture of you in my mind."

"Dil ki baat kehne ko ji chahta hai,
Magar harf-e-dua samajh nahi aata"

Translation: "My heart wants to say something, but I don't understand the words of prayer"

"Hazaaron Khwahishen Aisi Ki Har Khwahish Pe Dam Nikle,

Bahut Nikle Mere Armaan, Lekin Phir Bhi Kam Nikle."

which translates to "A prayer rises to my lips".
