Urdu Poet Shahryar Ghazal

Shahryar

Shahryar Ghazal

No one appears as beautiful as you in sight
Neither do I believe in myself anymore
Your thought is as cruel as you are
Wherever one wishes to come, you never appear
What's going to happen, what should one worry about now?
Even what has happened, I don't have faith in it
This is my heart, that crushes the view of the deserted town
All doors are open, yet no one arrives
If separation is destined, then part ways on this path
For there's no turning back on this journey
Shahryar

This ghazal by Shahryar explores themes of longing, disillusionment, and acceptance of fate. The poet reflects on the elusive nature of love and the uncertainty of life's path. He expresses the idea that despite one's desires and expectations, reality may not align with one's hopes. The imagery of a deserted town and open doors symbolizes the emptiness and unpredictability of existence. Ultimately, the poet resigns himself to the inevitability of separation and the unknown future that lies ahead.

Hope brought less than what was expected,
We, the people, arrived a little late to the market.

Truth, even they themselves don't speak,
Oh people of madness, you arrived here in vain.

This fire is the spark of desire, it will consume it too,
Tell the sun that the shade has arrived in the wall.

Our loneliness keeps increasing as we walk,
What thought made us come to the valley of denial?
Sharyar

This poetry reflects on the disillusionment and disappointment in life's outcomes. It suggests that despite high hopes, reality often falls short. The poet questions the authenticity of truth and observes the futility in human endeavours. There's a metaphorical portrayal of desire as a destructive force and a sense of despair in facing the inevitability of loneliness. The poem ends with a rhetorical question pondering the reasons behind human denial of harsh realities.
