Maulana Altaf Hussain Hali
Maulana Altaf Hussain Hali was a prominent Urdu poet, writer, and critic who lived in the late 19th century. He was born on December 29, 1837, in Panipat, India, and died on September 17, 1914, in Panipat.
Hali is best known for his work "Musaddas-e-Hali," a long poem that is considered one of the greatest literary achievements in Urdu. The poem is a meditation on the decline of Muslim power in India and the need for cultural and intellectual renewal. Hali was a member of the "Delhi School" of Urdu poetry, which emphasized the use of simpler language and a more accessible style than the more ornate and complex "Lucknow School."
In addition to his poetry, Hali was also a respected critic and wrote several books on Urdu literature and culture, including "Majalis-e-Hali," a collection of lectures on the history of Urdu poetry. He was a key figure in the Urdu literary renaissance of the late 19th century and played an important role in the development of modern Urdu prose.
