Hali Poetry

Maulana Altaf Hussain Hali

Maulana Altaf Hussain Hali was a prominent Urdu poet, writer, and critic who lived in the late 19th century. He was born on December 29, 1837, in Panipat, India, and died on September 17, 1914, in Panipat.

Hali is best known for his work "Musaddas-e-Hali," a long poem that is considered one of the greatest literary achievements in Urdu. The poem is a meditation on the decline of Muslim power in India and the need for cultural and intellectual renewal. Hali was a member of the "Delhi School" of Urdu poetry, which emphasized the use of simpler language and a more accessible style than the more ornate and complex "Lucknow School."

In addition to his poetry, Hali was also a respected critic and wrote several books on Urdu literature and culture, including "Majalis-e-Hali," a collection of lectures on the history of Urdu poetry. He was a key figure in the Urdu literary renaissance of the late 19th century and played an important role in the development of modern Urdu prose.

Hai Ishq Tabeeb Dil Ke Bimaron Ka
Ya Khud Hai ye Ghar Hazaar Aazaron Ka
Hum Kuch Nahi Jante Par Itni Hai Khabar
Ek Mashghala Dilchasp Hai Bekaron Ka
Maulana Altaaf Hussein Hali

 Ishq-Love
Tabeeb-Physician
Azaar-Affliction
Mashgala-pastime
Bekaar-Idle person
