Do you remember, there
used to be a Rustam and Sohrab (like bravery/chivalry)?
There used to be
etiquettes (adab) for both love and war.
Do you remember, people, draped in the cloak of contentment,
Used to be fresh and
joyful even in the yellowing (difficult) seasons?
Do you remember, like angels in dilapidated houses,
There were
people—those rare pearls (Gohar-e-Nayab)?
Do you remember, in the manner of address for the elders,
There used to be
titles like Qibla and Ka'aba?
If only there were nothing but love in the world,
Do you remember the
dreams that used to be in our eyes?
It is a blessing that you met me like a shore, otherwise,
Only whirlpools
(Gardaab) were destined for my fate.
They too went to sleep, wrapped in the shroud of earth,
Who were once the moon
of beauty (Mahtab-e-Husn).
Reciting the Fatiha (prayer for the deceased), Mubarak, I cried a lot today,
Alas! What flower-like
friends (Ahbab) there used to be!
