Salute
To those unsung martyrs,
who, despite sacrificing everything
for the freedom of India,
could not even leave their trace
on the pages of Indian history.

In the March 1857 issue, Azimullah published a song that became the revolutionary anthem of the 1857 War of Independence.
We are its masters, this Hindustan is ours ;
A pure homeland of the nation, dearer even than Paradise .
This Hindustan is our property and inheritance
The entire world is illuminated by its spirituality
How ancient, how bountiful, unique from the whole world
Fertilized and enriched by the streams of the Ganges and Yamuna
Above, the snowy mountain stands as our sentinel/guard
Below, on the shore, beats the drum of the ocean
Its mines yield gold, diamonds, and mercury
The glory and grandeur of this land are acclaimed across the world
The foreigner came from afar and cast such a spell
Plundering our beloved homeland with both hands
Today, the martyrs call upon you, O people of the nation
Break the chains of slavery and rain down fire
Hindus, Muslims, and Sikhs are our beloved brothers
This is the flag of freedom, and to it, we offer our salute
