ग़ज़ल के शेर:

जिंदगी सोज़ बने, साज़ न होने पाए।
दिल तो टूटे, मगर आवाज़ न होने पाए।

दर्द अगर शामिल-ए-आवाज़ न होने पाए।
कोई मूनिस कोई दमसाज़ न होने पाए।

जाम से कुछ को पिला, कुछ को निगाहों से मगर।
कोई मयकश नज़रअंदाज़ न होने पाए।

लुत्फ़ जब है कि रहे इश्क़ सदा महव-ए-नियाज़।
और इस बात पे भी नाज़ न होने पाए।

खुद को करता है जुनूँ के हवाले तो ये सुन।
अक्ल हरगिज़ ख़लल अंदाज़ न होने पाए।

जिस में अंजाम का हो ख़ौफ़ सदा दामनगीर।
ऐसे अफ़साने का आग़ाज़ न होने पाए।

इश्क़ और हुस्न मिलें मिल के ख़ुदा बन जाएँ।
गर हवस तफ़रक़ा अंदाज़ न होने पाए।

आशियाँ कुंज-ए-क़फ़स से भी गराँ-तर हो 'सहर'।
गर मुआविन पर-ए-परवाज़ न होने पाए।

May life become a deep burning passion rather than a mere musical instrument;
May the heart break, but make no sound.

If pain does not meld into the voice,
Then let there be no true friend or companion.

Serve wine to some from the goblet and to others through your eyes,
But ensure no drinker feels overlooked.

True joy lies when love remains ever humble,
And yet takes no pride in its own devotion.

If you surrender yourself to passion, listen well:
Let reason never interrupt your path.

A story where the fear of the end constantly haunts you
Should never be started at all.

Love and beauty can unite to become divine,
Provided greed does not sow division between them.

O 'Sahar', even a free nest becomes heavier than a cage
If the wings of flight offer no support
