क्या बूद-ओ-बाश पूछो हो पूरब के साकिनो

हम को ग़रीब जान के हँस हँस पुकार के

दिल्ली जो एक शहर था आलम में इंतिख़ाब

रहते थे मुंतख़ब ही जहाँ रोज़गार के

उस को फ़लक ने लूट के बरबाद कर दिया

हम रहने वाले हैं उसी उजड़े दयार के

hum ko gharib jaan ke hans hans pukar ke

dilli jo ek shahr tha aalam mein intiKHab

rahte the muntaKHab hi jahan rozgar ke

us ko falak ne luT ke barbaad kar diya

hum rahne wale hain usi ujDe dayar ke

What abode do you ask of me, O dwellers of the East? 

Despising me as poor and making fun of me

Delhi, that was an unmatched city  in the world,

 Where inhabited only the chosen of the time

Fate has plundered it and made it deserted, 

I belong to that very ruined city
