Rahat Indori (born 1 January 1950) was an Indian Urdu
language poet, lyricist and Bollywood scriptwriter. He was born in Indore, Madhya
Pradesh, India. He had a Master's degree in Urdu literature. He began his
career as a professor of Urdu literature at a college in Indore, but later
became a full-time poet and lyricist.
He wrote more than 20 books of poetry, which include:
"Mauhabbat Sher-o-Shayari", "Ghazal Ka
Safar", "Shayad", "Naqsh-e-Faryaadi", "Zindagi
Naam Hai", "Harf-e-Raaz" and "Kuchh Aur Bhi". His
poetry is known for its simplicity, wit, and satire.
Some of his popular verses in Urdu
are:
"Zindagi ye safar hai koi bhi
sath nahi deta,
Har mod par ek naya dost milta
hai"
"Tum aa gaye ho, noor aa gaya
hai
Chehre se zulfein hatati hui"
English Translation:
"Life is a journey, no one
accompanies us,
At every turn, we find a new
friend"
"You have come, light has come,
Hair are being removed from the
face."
"Jab bhi koi shaks mujhse
poochhe ki kya hai tere dil mein,
Main kehta hoon koi khwab, koi
aarzoo, koi bebasi hai"
"Aankh mein aansu hai to kya, hothon pe muskaan rehti hai,
Yeh zindagi hai kisi ke liye to kisi
ke liye bebasi hai"
Wahi haar ke jeetaa hai, jo haar ke
jeetaa hai"
"When someone asks me what is in
my heart,
I say there is a dream, a desire,
some helplessness"
"Even if there are tears in the
eyes, there is a smile on the lips,
This life is helplessness for
someone, for someone else it is nothing"
"This life is not a game, that
one wins by playing,
The one who wins by losing, wins this
life."
"Ab ke baras bahaar aayee, to
kis se kahoon ki bahaar aayee
Dil ko bas yahi sataati hai ki tum na
aayee"
"Jab koi baat bigad jaaye, jab koi mushkil pad jaaye
Tum dena saath mera, o humnawaa"
"Kisi ki aankh ka noor hoon, kisi ke dil ka qaraar hoon
Main to kisi ke liye hoon, kisi ke
liye nahi hoon"
My heart is only pained by the fact
that you haven't come"
"When something goes wrong, when there's a problem

Rahat Indori was a renowned and master of Urdu poetry, his words were not only simple but also very relatable, his poetry spoke of the realities of life, his pain and his longing, his love and his loss. He has left behind a legacy of timeless poetry that will continue to be cherished by people for many years to come. He had a deep understanding of human emotions and relationships. His poetry reflects the complexities of life, the pain of love and loss, and the longing for something better. He passed away on August 11, 2020, due to COVID-19. He will always be remembered for his simple yet profound verses that touched the hearts of many.
